This week’s edition is dedicated to Love and the development of our devotion to God.
He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. – Psalms 91:1
He who does not love does not know God, for God is love… And we have known and believed the love that God has for us. God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God in him. – 1 John 4:8, 16.
Developing the Love of God in our lives should be our greatest priority. In order to achieve this, we must first recognize that love is not just an aspect or a feature of God; God is love. Love is what God is [1 John 4:8]. Love is not a feeling or an emotion, love is a person; the person of God. It is our devotion to the presence of God that would secure the development of the love for God thereby ensuring our fulfillment in life.
Many would go out today expressing romantic love, many would decide on this day to renew their love for their spouses and or immoral partners, many today, would fall into the sin of immorality all in the name of professing love – all these are aimed at finding fulfillment from our relationships. Our greatest calling is to love God [Matt. 22: 37-40], it is in the Love of God we find the highest fulfillment, it is our daily intimacy with God that would fill the vacuum of love that is common to all of us. Here this: nothing can be compared with intimacy with God, intimacy with God has no challengers.
It is our devotion to intimacy with God that would secure fulfillment in life – the life of Christ. The opening step to cultivating intimacy with God is to acknowledge that the abundant life He promises will never be found in any other person – not in your boyfriend, girlfriend, wife or husband but in the in Christ Jesus alone. Jesus said “I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly”.
Love is personal, it can only be understood by the persons involved. Intimate love with God is personal, it demands the secret place. The love for you display outside is nothing when you don’t love God from the secret place. God is Love, He personally loved us first, and all He requires of us to personally love Him back. “This is true intimacy with God: when we feel that no one else would totally understand, even if we tried to explain, because relationship with God is personal” – He is my Lord and Personal Saviour.
Love requires communication, Love and Intimacy require conversation to keep alive, the secret place is the place where you converse with God through the Holy Spirit brooding over His Word and through prayers, spending time with Him in the secret place meditating in the Word and on the Word. Without meditation and time with God, it is practically impossible to attain the perfect devotion necessary to reach God. It is the amount of time spent musing on God and His Word, His ways and His doings that would usher us into greater depth of His love, heightened intimacy and fellowship with Him.
In conclusion, remember that just as it takes time, efforts and inputs to develop intimacy with another person, so it is with developing intimate relationship with God. As you grow in your love and confidence in Him, believing what He says in His Word growingly, your love affair with Him will become increasingly fulfilling and the abundant life will grow inside your spirit.
